Big Lakes Family & Community Support Services (FCSS)
A partnership between the MD of Big Lakes and the Town of High Prairie

To improve the quality of life for our community by assisting people to address their own needs and help themselves.
To help people help themselves to live a happier and healthier life.
To educate the community and make people aware of choices and options, thereby giving individuals power over their own life.

Provide assistance with forms for other agencies (such as CPP, OAS, GIS, AISH, low income housing, etc.).
Provide help contacting and communicating with other agencies as needed.
Provide information about programs and resources run by other agencies.
File income taxes for low income individuals (under the Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program).
Refer individuals to programs and resources that may be of assistance.
Provide supportive listening to community members and provide appropriate information as requested.
Provide information and networking with health, mental health, and well-being as requested.
Provide limited funding for some seniors activities and programs.
Host a Family Day event.
Provide Youth Programs as required.
Provide Home Support (light housekeeping) to people in the community who need help in order to allow them to remain in their own homes.
Host volunteer appreciation events.
Host senior's week events.
Provide Disaster Social Services in the event of a disaster (such as the Slave Lake fire).
Provide support to community groups for social activities.
Facilitate preventative and educational workshops.

We do not provide direct financial assistance of any kind to any individuals for any purpose.
We do not provide transportation of any kind at this time.
We do not do income taxes outside the Canada Revenue Agency's CVIT Program or for businesses.
We do not work for any federal or provincial government agency. We only assist in filling out their paperwork – we do not manage the programs or have any input into whether applications will be approved.
Home Support Program: We do not provide heavy house cleaning services or yardwork services nor do we provide personal care.
